This is probably my favorite Warders book despite it being short and, as some reviewers have said, something of an intro to the other stories. Actually, I'd recommend buying the Warders Volumes 1 & 2 because you'll get all six stories for a better price than buying them individually. I've read all six and Ryan & Julian are still my favorite couple. There's something about a super-model who has a sense of vulnerability that makes Ryan sweet when he could be a jerk that pushes my buttons.I'm not sure why people were surprised by the book heading into supernatural territory when Calmes is well-known for her Change of Heart series, and more recently, the Chevalier duo and L'Ange trilogy, but maybe that's why it's a good idea to check out reviews as well as blurbs. I didn't think it was crazy that Julian should be well-adjusted about the whole thing - I thought it was a riot how he involved his best friend!Calmes has just such a low-key, easy-flowing way of writing that her books are always a pleasure to read. I like the cadence of her prose and the down-to-earth dialogue that she gives her characters. I would recommend this to anyone who enjoyed either her Change of Heart or L'Ange series.
